Set Up Automatic Payments for Chores and Jobs

Greenlight allows you to differentiate between chores and jobs, each providing unique teaching opportunities.

The Difference Between Chores and Jobs

  • Chores are tasks that teach children about responsibility. These can be routine duties such as washing the dishes daily or cleaning their room every week. You can schedule chores as recurring or one-off tasks and decide whether to tie chores to allowances. For example, you may choose to pay your child based on their chore completion—either by a percentage or only if all assigned chores are finished. This teaches kids that hard work is rewarded. Examples of chores include:
    • Take out the Trash
    • Clean the Bathroom
  • Jobs, on the other hand, offer extra earning opportunities that foster initiative and motivation. Jobs can be assigned with an expiration date and a unique reward amount, helping children understand that additional effort leads to extra financial rewards. Examples of jobs include:
    • Raking the leaves
    • Babysitting

Automate Your Kid's Allowance

Once you've organized your child’s chores and/or jobs, Greenlight allows you to automate their allowance on a schedule that suits your family’s needs—weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. With the automatic payment feature, your child will receive their allowance on the chosen payday, provided you have funds available in your Parent’s Wallet or have set up Autofunding.

For families who link allowance payments to chore completion, you can select the “All or nothing” option. This means your child will only receive their allowance if they complete 100% of their assigned chores before payday, teaching accountability and the importance of fulfilling commitments.

Don’t worry, Greenlight sends reminders! You’ll receive a notification a day before allowance is due, and you can always pause the allowance from the Allowance page if needed.

Encourage Saving Habits Early

Greenlight is not just about spending—it’s a great way to teach your kids the value of saving. One of the most important financial lessons is to "pay yourself first," and Greenlight reinforces this idea by making savings a priority. In the Savings section, your child can:

Set Savings Goals

Teach your kids to plan ahead by setting specific settings goals. This will encourage them to think about their purchases and prioritize saving.

Roundups

Greenlight also allows for rounding up transactions, where spare change can automatically go into savings.

Safety

Parents can schedule automatic transfers into savings, ensuring a portion of any allowance or job payment goes straight into savings.
