The amount you spend in each area is up to you. The four-gift guide still lets you splurge if you have the urge, but it won't allow you to go over budget on too many items.
Of course, the gift really depends on you and the recipient. If you can, try making something instead of buying it. Handy with knitting needles? Consider making a scarf or sweater - your friends and family will greatly appreciate the time and thoughtfulness you put into a homemade gift.
