Your Spring Cleaning Checklist

The thought of spring cleaning may seem overwhelming. With a plan, you’ll save your sanity and pennies too! Use our spring cleaning checklist to make your home feel fresh and clean in no time.

Getting Started:

1. Supplies
   Before you start cleaning, make sure you have your supplies. Get them in bulk or from a discount store to save money. This way, you won’t have to rush to buy overpriced supplies at the grocery store.
2. Checklist
   Use a checklist and focus on one room at a time.

Tip: Mindset matters! If you're organized at home, you're more likely to be organized at work and in your day-to-day life. Be willing to let go of objects that don't really have a purpose and are only collecting dust.

Cleaning Checklist:

The In-Betweens

As you are moving from room to room, keep these areas in mind:

Dust your blinds and ceiling fans
Wipe down walls and ceilings to get rid of fingerprints and scuffs
Shampoo carpets and rugs
Clean windows
Vacuum out the heating and cooling vents
Dust and wipe down the window frames

The Kitchen

Clean and organize the cabinets and drawers
Scrub your sink and clean your garbage disposal
Clean the grout and wipe down any backsplash or tile flooring
Vacuum behind the refrigerator or other large appliances and make sure coils are free of dust
Throw out any expired food
Defrost and clean your refrigerator and freezer
Scrub the oven and stove top

The Living Room

Wash blankets and throw pillows
Clean out the fireplace flue
Clean electronics and wipe down remote controls
Organize books and magazines
Move furniture and vacuum under larger pieces such as the couches and entertainment centers

The Laundry Room

Clean lint trap and dryer vents
Wipe down washing machine and dryer
Organize cleaning supplies and throw away expired products
Sweep and mop floors

The Bedrooms

Wash bedding and flip mattresses
Organize nightstands and dressers
Organize your closet
Donate or store seasonal clothing
Replace heavy sheets and comforters with lighter options for the warmer months to come

Home Office

Organize paperwork and shred unnecessary documents
Dust and clean electronics, including keyboards and monitors
Wipe down desks and office furniture
Clean out files and update important documents

The Bathroom

Organize drawers and cabinets
Throw out expired cosmetics, beauty products, and medicine
Scrub and sanitize the toilet, sink, and your bathtub or shower
Clean mirrors, countertops, and faucets
Wash shower curtains and bath mats

Outdoor Spaces

Clean out landscaping and gutters
Wash outdoor furniture
Organize the garage or any utility shed
Inspect outdoor lighting and replace any burnt out bulbs

Safety Precautions

Once you're finished with your spring cleaning, this is also a great time to take any safety precautions. Change your batteries in your fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors (this should be done twice a year) and make sure all are free of dust. It's also a good idea to change your furnace filter at this time.

Pest Inspections

With spring often comes unwanted visitors. Prevent finding insects and spiders by spraying your home both inside and outside. You can do this yourself by using the right equipment or by hiring a pest control service to get the job done.
